Design a poster promoting a fictional event celebrating Cincinnati talent that focuses on musician William "Bootsy" Collins.
purpose/intention
Grab the attention of people passing by so that they stop and learn more about the event. It will reference "Bootsy" and get people excited with an interesting and experimental design.
Audience
Cincinnati residents will be the main viewers, but the target audience is people drawn to a funky aesthetic who would be interested in an event that includes "Bootsy".
Context
The large poster would be on the walls of Cincinnati, competing for attention with other posters and advertisements.
Research
William "Bootsy" Collins is an influential funk bassist who is innovative and playful. He has a distinct aesthetic and sense of style that includes star motifs.
Experimentation
Using different materials, I experimented with typography and other potential design elements. Transparency, overlapping, and warping were physical effects I created.
Exploration
Starting with a sketch, I developed concepts using my experimentation and found images. I tried out a variety of colors, layouts, and elements within each concept.

Refinement
I decided to refine the first iteration because the border, interesting layout, and bold "Bootsy" had potential. Compared to other iterations, the aesthetic more closely matched Bootsy's. I refined the color, texture, and layout.
Final Poster
The final color is a vibrant orange that represents Bootsy's outgoing nature, and the monochromatic palette prevents competition for attention. There is a clear hierarchy and many funky design elements.
