Purpose/Intention
Start by creating a simplified, geometric mark of an elephant. Then apply the mark to a large composition that is dynamic and promotes interest,
Reaserch
Photos of elephants were referenced to understand what traits like the trunk and ears look like in different species and from different angles.
Sketches
Using my research, I explored multiple ways to capture the different elements of the elephant. Purple lines show consistent angles.
Iterations
I explored two of my sketches. I tried iterations of different elements like the feet, trunks, and eyes. Consistent line angles were used.

Final Mark
I mostly drew from iteration 3, but improved elements like the trunk, eyes, and white lines.

Composition Iteration
Next, I incorporated the mark into a larger composition, including a phrase. I created a list of elephant qualities and used it to create the phrase.
I tried out different locations for textual and graphical elements. Creating balanced spacing and making the elephant a clear focal point were some challenges I faced.
Final
The black-and-white lines tended to be distracting, and providing space in front of the elephant gives it room to breathe. I struggled with the text "traverses the savanna," but experimenting with capitalization and placement led to a successful result.
